Fees are determined by country income level
Fees are calculated according to the World Bank’s income classification, so that access to the summer school is made as fair as possible.
Classification follows the World Bank FY2025 income groupings (GNI per capita, Atlas method, 2023 data). The fee is based on the country issuing your passport — not your country of residence or badge country. If your country does not appear in any list, contact us and we will determine your category together.
High Income Countries — HIC €600
Countries with a GNI per capita above $13,845 (World Bank Atlas method, 2023 data). The fee is €600.
Upper Middle Income Countries — UMIC €500
Countries with a GNI per capita between $4,466 and $13,845. The fee is €500. Students from conflict-affected countries in this group are eligible for a course fee waiver — see the Conflict & Crisis section below.
Lower Middle Income Countries — LMIC €350
Countries with a GNI per capita between $1,136 and $4,465. The fee is €350. Students from conflict-affected countries in this group are eligible for a course fee waiver — see the Conflict & Crisis section below.
Low Income Countries — LIC €150
Countries with a GNI per capita below $1,136. The fee is €150. Students from these countries may also apply for a scholarship covering the course fee — see the scholarship section below. Students from conflict-affected LIC countries are eligible for a course fee waiver regardless.
Conflict & Crisis Contexts Scholarship
Students from countries in active conflict or severe humanitarian crisis are eligible for a course fee waiver, regardless of World Bank income tier. This is not a full scholarship: students remain responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs. A small number of additional scholarships may be available to help offset these costs — contact us to discuss your situation. This applies to holders of the relevant passport, not to nationals residing abroad. Places are limited and allocated on a case-by-case basis.
Students from Low Income countries may apply for a scholarship covering the course fee. Students from Conflict & Crisis contexts are eligible for a course fee waiver; this is not a full scholarship — students are still responsible for travel and accommodation. A small number of additional scholarships may be available to partially offset these costs.
To apply, write to summerschool@tudelft.nl with a brief statement of motivation and confirmation of your nationality. Decisions are communicated during the application review process. No fee of any kind covers accommodation, travel, or personal expenses; all fees include course materials, site visits, and excursions only.
Note on dedicated scholarships. A very small number of earmarked scholarships exist for Sub-Saharan African students and for Young Teachers (early-career academics in a teaching position). These are extremely competitive: in recent editions there have been over 100 applications for two or three available places. We mention them here for transparency, but applicants should not rely on them and are strongly encouraged to seek independent funding.
